MOORE'S SUMMARY: Happy Election Day, Insiders. We know everyone in Illinois politics is going to be asking the people in their circles some version of "What are you hearing?" So, we decided to reach out to our contacts in state politics and government to get their election predictions.
We kept it open-ended and gave folks the opportunity to stay anonymous in order to offer their candid opinions. Some took us up on that, though you'll see some put their names to their forecasts. We even asked Gov. Pritzker when he was in Springfield yesterday. Here's what he and other plugged in Insiders had to say.
Gov. JB Pritzker
"Well, we're going to have a majority, I believe, in the House. So I'm very excited about that, and I think we'll at least win 20 seats in the House, if you want to hear a number, and I believe that we are going to win the United States Senate.
I must say, a couple of weeks ago, I thought that possibly it would be 50-50. Now I think it's going to be 51 or 52 Democrats that get elected. Might be more. But we're seeing incredible numbers out of Kansas, for example, where I don't think anybody thought that race was going to be competitive. We're even seeing in Nebraska a competitive race, and, again, nobody had that on their radar."
"So, we all talk about the six or seven seats where there's even polling between candidates, but I think there are just enough of those outliers and enough of those races that are toss-ups, and a wave that we're seeing at least from Democrats, that I think we're going to see a Democratic Senate. So I'm excited about it. And I don't know if my numbers are going to be accurate, but I feel like the energy is moving in the direction of a Democratic majority in the House and the Senate."
