Twelve of 36 seats on the Illinois Democratic State Central Committee were contested in Tuesday’s primary election. As expected House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch secured a spot on the committee, while embattled state Rep. Harry Benton, D-Plainfield, lost his race.
Democratic political insiders predict tight races in the party’s primaries for U.S. Senate and several Chicago-area congressional districts. Republicans, on the other hand, expect Darren Bailey to easily win the party’s nomination for governor.
