Gov. JB Pritzker spent $10 million successfully boosting Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton in the Democratic primary for Illinois’ open U.S. Senate seat, a recent filing with the Federal Elections Commission confirmed.
Twelve of 36 seats on the Illinois Democratic State Central Committee were contested in Tuesday’s primary election. As expected House Speaker Emanuel “Chris” Welch secured a spot on the committee, while embattled state Rep. Harry Benton, D-Plainfield, lost his race.
Gov. JB Pritzker’s running mate, Christian Mitchell says the Pritzker campaign is taking Republican Darren Bailey’s candidacy seriously, looking to make things more affordable for Illinoisans and keeping an eye on progress toward clean energy goals.
Democratic political insiders predict tight races in the party’s primaries for U.S. Senate and several Chicago-area congressional districts. Republicans, on the other hand, expect Darren Bailey to easily win the party’s nomination for governor.
